The Rewards For Playing Online Poker

The poker boom continues to skyrocket, with million of dollars up for grab everyday. Poker has never been as popular as it is today. With several casinos and websites coming up, the popularity of this game is increasing everyday. Poker has become a hobby for many people, next to partying or playing professional games.

Traditional venues such as poker rooms and casinos for playing poker are sometimes located in geographically disparate locations and it can be intimidating for novice players. The brick and mortar casinos are reluctant to promote poker because they find it difficult to profit from it. However, the time charge or rake of traditional casinos is often high. Traditional casinos remove poker rooms and add to the number of slot machines, in order to make more money.

Online venues for playing poker are cheaper, as the overhead cost is much less. For instance, adding a poker table to a casino would take up a lot of space, but this is not the case with online poker venues. Poker became very popular since Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker in 2003, after gaining entry from playing via satellite, at an online poker site. These online poker venues are more player-friendly, with software that prompts the players when it is their turn to act. You can also play for low stakes and get poker free-rolls, where there is no entry fee. Online poker has been partly responsible for the significant increase in the number of poker players all around the world. In 2005, the revenue from online poker was estimated at 200 million US dollars per month.

Several reputable online sites cater to millions of poker players everyday. There are several advantages of plying online poker:

  1. Lower stakes: Since there are no dealers, no utilities or rent to pay, online sites offer the games at lower stakes. This is not possible in a brick and mortar card room. If you want to start playing poker online, you can access any of the several sites, where the stakes are as low as a dime or nickel.
  2. No tipping: If you are a new player and you have to face nine other players, it can be very intimidating. In online poker you can interact with the other players through the chat boxes or you can play your own game, without having to socialize.
  3. Fits any schedule: Online poker fits into any schedule, since you can play anytime you want. There is no traveling or waiting time involved.
  4. Everybody acts in turns: No player can act out of turn because the software that is used in online poker does not permit the same. Some sites have boxes or buttons that you can check, to enable you to raise, call or fold as soon as you see your cards. However, no action can take place until it is your turn to act.
  5. Pot odds can be shown: In live games, some players find it difficult to keep a track of pot odds and determine whether they are receiving the right odds or not. Whereas in online poker, you know the exact money available in the pot.
  6. Keeping notes: You can keep notes of the online players, unlike live games. Most of the winning players maintain notes on the other players they meet online and the type of hands played by opponents. Keep changing your playing style constantly, in order to be successful in the game. Do not be predictable in your betting patterns and keep practicing and reading the game.
